Archival history
In 1960 the Budget group moved from the Administration division to the Finance Division. In 1978 the Buget group was renamed the Central Planning Office and was integrated into the Services of the Director-general. In 1980 the Central Planning office and Administrative Data Processing Service were regrouped to form Planning and Administrative Data Processing services. In 1982 the group was transferred to the newly created Management Information Department. Its responsibilities were divided between three groups : Forecasts and statistics group, Data Processing group and Technical support group. In 1986 the Forecasts and statistics group was renamed the Planning and Budget Office, and was transferred to the Finance Division. In 1994 the Planning and Budget Office, renamed the Strategic Planning Unit (SPU), moved to the Directorate Service Unit. In 2004 SPU became part of the Finance Department

Scope and content
The mission of the Strategic Planning Unit group is to help management with the long term planning activities and resources optimisation. It provides models for medium and long-term personnel and financial planning. It is in charge of compiling the medium-term plan of CERN Scientific activities and budget estimates which is approved annually by the CERN Council. This collection contains records concerning divisional budget, forecast budget, Study Group on Administration Structure SGAS, Directorate Programme Office DIR-PO, Construction Committee (COCO) of Intersecting Storage Rings, Groupe de Travail sur les Systèmes d'Informatique de Gestion (GTSIG), long-term planning, Programme Budget System (PSB), staff statisitics , lists of personnel…
